What is a Bernedoodle?

A Bernedoodle is a direct cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. As a result, the Bernedoodle gets the smartness of the Poodle and the friendly, sweet, stubborn but also sociable character of the Bernese Mountain Dog. It is important that both breeds are properly raised and trained. A poorly behaved Poodle will be nervous and a Bernese will be very stubborn and stubborn. It is therefore important that you have a lot of time for the dog. Then he or she will become your best friend!

A first cross between the two breeds results in an F1 Bernedoodle. This dog will have a coat that sheds less, loses less dander and will therefore be largely anti-allergic. This is already a suitable dog for many allergy sufferers. The coat can be wavy or curly, resulting in less hair loss. However, the coat can also be long and straight which can cause more hair loss. In case of severe allergies, we therefore advise you to choose an Australian Bernedoodle because it is completely anti-allergic.

An F1b Bernedoodle is a backcross with a Poodle or Bernese Mountain Dog. When backcrossing with a Poodle, the coat will be even more anti-allergic. When backcrossing with a Bernese Mountain Dog, the Bernedoodle will get more of the character of the Bernese.

An F2 Bernedoodle is a cross between two F1 Bernedoodles. It sometimes happens that the puppies have an improper coat. This is a coat that does not match well with the coat we like to see in a Doodles; soft, long and curly. This can be prevented by performing a DNA test beforehand on the IC (Improper Coat) gene in both parents.

The Bernedoodle is a very suitable family dog, they interact well with children and love being around people.
